- It shows value, not return. When you buy something the line steps up — that is a purchase, not a gain. Dots mark the dates a holding changed.
- The line is dashed where some holdings had no value on that date, so the figure is partial.
- Items valued in a currency with no exchange rate are left out, and the chart says so.
