A backup is a complete, still-encrypted copy of the vault — records, photos, documents and history. Without your passphrase or recovery key it is unreadable, so it is safe on an external drive or in a synced folder.
- Settings → Backups → Choose where to put backups. An external drive or a synced folder, away from this computer, is best.
- Choose Back up now.
- Verify it — see Verifying a backup.
Options:
- Keep in that folder — The newest 3, 5, 10 or 20, or Keep every backup. Older backups of this vault are removed after each new one; nothing else in the folder is touched.
- Remind me to back up — after a week, two weeks, a month or three months. The reminder shows on the overview while the app is open.
- Back up to another folder… for a one-off copy elsewhere.
